Influenced by the British Arts & Crafts movement and its sister movement, American Craftsman, proponents of Great Camp believed in the spiritual and physical benefits of outdoor recreation and wilderness conservation, focusing on the use of rustic, native materials as well as the skill and knowledge of local craftspeople.
